The ultimate soaring centre

May 15th 2007

For the next season 2007 2008 we can use some extra help in Corowa.

We need:

Operational help. For packing and unpacking the hangar and running the start grid.

Cook  who is able to look after the restaurant.
We prepare lunches and  in the evening
dinner for our pilots and staff.

Experienced tow pilot (preferable with Australian license)

May 14th The last news of this season. (the next news will be on the 2007 2008 news, after July 1st)

Finally we can close the season. A great season.

First of all we like to thank all our customers for choosing Corowa as their holiday
soaring paradise.
We also like to thank our staff, Victor, Wim, Jan, Chris and Eugene.
They all did a great job and we have to realize that they are "Volunteers" !!

It was season no 6 for us and without any doubt the best season so far. Good weather and a smooth operation.
And fortunately a safe season again without any incident or accidents.

The weather was perfect and we made all together 777 cross country flights (flights over 100 km)
The longest distance was flown by Hans Christian Hoeck from Denmark, he flew 1135 km with "LK"

distance cross country flights

total km

100 km ---> 300 km 122 24.244.
300 km --> 500 km 226 87.427
500 km --> 750 km 282 169.369
750 km --> 1000 km 136 113.139
>>> 1000 km 11 11.611

And another part of our operation is the container transport.
It is normal that the containers leave Grubbenvorst in time , we can start flying on the scheduled date
in Corowa and unpack in Grubbenvorst again on the scheduled day.
But every year there are new surprise somewhere along the trip. Unexpected and unpleasant.
Three very important people in the transport operation are: Erik van Geffen of Sauter Shipping Services in Rotterdam
Jodie Reilly from Vanguard Logistics in Melbourne and mr Ray Vassalo of AQIS Australia.
Erik and Jodie work together and take care of the trip and all the paperwork, customs, custom strikes and
a lot of other trouble.
Mr Ray Vassallo, in close contact with Jodie, is always willing to make time for prompt inspection
which makes it possible to fly almost straight after arrival in Corowa.

See you all in Corowa

April 13th 2007

The season is over.
Last Saturday, after a stressful week, we unpacked all 4 containers.
Grietje and Francesco went to Grubbenvorst on Friday to make the necessary preparations
for unpacking and the first check of the gliders.
All 4 containers with 23 gliders were ok!!!.
On Saturday morning 9 am, we started unpacking and by 1 pm we had all gliders in the trailers
and everybody was on his way home.
We stayed the afternoon  in Grubbenvorst, to clean the containers and prepare them for September
and make the list for the necessary replacement of (spare)parts.
An extra "thank you very much" for Nils who was a great help with the unpacking and my daughter
Megan who was looking after her little brother Frank. They also delivered "NL" at Soesterberg.

All gliders ok ! Batteries chrged 23 glders to go

A long season is over, but the new season is not far away.
Thanks to everybody who made this season a successful one.
And special
Jan, Chris, Eugene, Craig and Victor thank you very much!!.

Grietje, Francesco and Frank take some time off now.

April 6th 2007

All containers are in Grubbenvorst !!
More news about unpacking after Easter.

April 5th 2007

All containers have been cleared by customs ( 5 minutes before closing time ).
So unpacking on Saturday !!!!!!!!!
What a relieve>
A special thanks for Eric van Geffen from Sauter Ltd, who spend most of his time
this week trying to clear our containers.

April 3rd 2007

It is very disappointing after all the work and on time arriving of the containers
to be confronted with " Customs on strike".
We are working very hard behind the scenes to get all gliders in Grubbenvorst before Easter
but I fear we stay against the wall and have to wait until they clear the containers.

April 1st 2007

We left Corowa Friday morning  10 am. Peter Presneill was so kind to pick us
up and drive up to Melbourne.
After a reasonable good trip we are back in The Netherlands.
Frank and Grietje did well but Francesco is enjoying his jet lag.
It was very nice to be welcomed by the whole family at Schiphol.

But back to business again.
As mentioned before, Grietje and Francesco managed to finish everything for the next season.
The only thing to be done is putting back the magneto's on FOO after they are back for maintenance.
The pest control did his work just before we left and the were surprised about the cleanness of
the hanger and Clubhouse.

The containers arrived today in Rotterdam on Schedule.

March 24th

One week to go and we are also back in Europe.

In Corowa we almost finished everything in a way that we can start the next season straight away.
Grietje prepared everything in the office and is busy with the new bookings and together with Francesco
they made the necessary changes on the website. Grietje also added a booking overview of the cross-hire
gliders. We are very happy we have an extra Discus 2ct online.
After cleaning the hangar (Francesco)  and clubhouse (Grietje) we had the pest control yesterday and they
Fumigated and treated both buildings. Clean !!
Both tow planes had their 100 hrly and are clean, polished and preserved for the winter.
Anyway we are happy to close the door within a few days.

In the meantime the containers are sailing on schedule. Today they left Philadelphia. Yes, this time we sailed
Eastbound via the Panama Channel.
The estimated date of arrival is still Saturday March 31st. So fingers crossed , we might be able to unpack on Friday.

So far the weather in Corowa has been amazing. Yesterday, I think it was an easy 500 km day. Nice cu's
and a max temperature 36 grC !!!!!!
Most of the days in March were flyable with cu's and high temperatures.

We got up early to check the containers before pick-up.

started to pop up. Pepe and Rodger launched at 12.30 followed by Ross Lacombe in the Mosquito.

The forecast was good, but it took a while before we had good conditions.
The forecasted cu's stayed in the West and our pilots were in the blue.

January 28th 2007

We were prepared for an early start again. But the wind was too strong and too cold. Nevertheless, most gliders
went for a flight.
Before we started flying  we rigged ZDR and JT.

A maiden flight was done by the new Duo Discus xt ZDR. January 24th 2007

Fred left today. He was here for 3 weeks. Did some nice flying and gave a hand on the airfield.
Thanks Fred , we hope to see you back next year. " Het was weer gezellig"

The first flying day for Mario on the DG808 and from tomorrow the ASW27.
The temperature did rise very slowly due top the SW wind. We had to wait until 12.30 to get the
temperature to go to 1000m. But most pilots left earlier. LK, IZ and NIT at 10.45 and struggled up
to the North.
As we got the right temperature, it was a reasonable day with good  cross country flights.
Special in the North where we got almost 3000 m cloudbase.
It was the last flying day for our Danish friends, Ole, Jorgen, Ib and Ole.
The had a good time and made excellent flights. We hope to see them back next year.

January 23rd 2007

An early start again. JR was the first to launch at 10.30. followed by Lubor and Ivan.
The weather forecast was a reasonable day, but a the air mass just North of the airfield was much better
as forecasted. (On the temp trace page,  we added the Wagga temp).
Cloudbase almost 3000 meter and sometimes difficult to find ,but good climbs.
In the afternoon Hedwig and Mario van Bree arrived. Mario will take over 3W on Thursday.

January 22nd 2007

Today was the last day for Zuzana. She flew with Dominik for about 2 hours before she left

fly the LS4 GOB. After the briefing and site check this morning he made his first flight on the LS4.

The weather today was ok. Blue thermals and a late start. We had an inversion which too a while
to break. No real long flights, but a good training day.

January 21st 2007

We only had 8mm rain during the night and early morning.
By 4 pm the sky cleared and we had nice cu's up to 2000 meter.
Daan was the only one who did fly and did 200 km.
The new High is in the Byte and we expect some good soaring weather for the next days.

January 20th 2007

An interesting day and 1020 km for Lubor Kuvik
The forecast gave the approach of the troughline by 4 to 5 pm in the afternoon. However after initially
moving SE it changed track to S,and after that SE again, so we had a bit more time to fly.
The wind was strong 20 to 25 kts, but straight on rway 32 .
The temp was excellent . 34,5 grC 1000m, 36 grC cu's and a max temp of 39 grC.
Lubor left at 10.30 and reported straight away 3 m/s climbs and 20 minutes later Daan 4 to 5 m/s and a cloud base
of 3000 meter. Daan landed after 970 km!!!

A thermal takes all the dust up Jan looking at the sky
Why am I on the ground?

It was also Wim's last Saturday evening, so the family evening was "Indonesian"
And it was perfect again.

Start of the buffet Danish and Slovak Table UK, B, D, Suisse, NL Victor , a port for Fred A nice meal after 970 km And after 1020 km

January 19th 2007

A difficult weather situation with the tropical storms from the North.
But as we hoped we had a window in the afternoon.
By 2 pm the sky showed some blue spots and "JR" and "NIT" launched and flew straight away in the good weather.
But the local fun was spoiled by a huge storm, which gave us 8 mm rain in 30 minutes (more as in the last 3 months)
The gliders however were gone and enjoyed excellent conditions. 3000m cloud base and lift over 4 m/s.
Jan Ritsma flew 270 km and Zuzana and Dominik 300 km o/r. After the storm no more launches.

Jan and Wim
busy peparing the Indonesian food
A rest day for
Ole, Jorgen, Ib and Ole
and for
Daan

A bit sad, but we did also put the first glider in the container again. "DG" is on the spot and only 22 gliders to go.
But we have still 4 weeks to go with hopefully good weather and long flights.

January 18th 2007

Yesterday evening Kees van Schaick left. Kees had a great time and hopes to be back next
year with his own ASW28. On the briefing we said good bye to Hans Herbert (DG).
He was flying with Rene Breesch for 3 weeks and they made a lot of good and long
cross country flights.
Last but not least , It was good to see Werner back after a week of problems with his back.

The weather however did not look to good for today. Only Jan Ritsma flew in a "window"
in the afternoon . He tried to do some 100 km triangles and flew a total of 3oo km +.
The high pressure in the Tasman Sea is very slow moving and keeps the new high west of the Byte
In between these system a deepening trough with a lot of rain and at some places even  flooding .

After dinner Marco Haakmeester left after his (too) short visit. He is flying back to Holland tomorrow
afternoon

January 17th 2007

We had high clouds all day.
Most pilots used the day for sight seeing. Richard flew in from Temora and
we ended the day with a nice salmon meal with a glas of white wine.

January 16th 2007

High pressure in the Tasman Sea and moist air coming in from the North.
When we started launching the wind increased up to 20 kts. This delayed the start
of the thermals.
In the afternoon the moist air came in and some storms developed. A line East West
Blocked the way for RA to fly back to Corowa. He landed at Temora and will take an
aero tow tomorrow.

The radar at 6 pm

January 15th 2007

Happy Birthday Hansi Lange.
A briefing room full was perfect for a loud happy birthday song and after briefing we had coffee with
a lot of different cakes.

An early temp flight, so Francesco could bring his daughter Cynthia to Albury Airport.

perfect. But most pilots (without engine)  did not take the risk to go that far and risking an outlanding
Nevertheless we had 2 flights over 500 km.

December 27th 2006

Merry Christmas from the Corowa family

The cool change did not bring to much rain in Corowa, but enough to help the fire fighters.
For today 7/8 cu's with possible rain in the afternoon. Wind 20 kts and later gusts to 36 kts.
Ilmari took an early tow, just before the wind increased and the gusty wind was too much to
do more aero tows. Peter Gerretse launched at the same time and enjoyed a few hours the
nice sky.
It is always a difficult decision to cancel towing with nice cu's in the sky, but safety first and
tomorrow there will be another day.

Jeroen Kroon and Ester from The Netherlands visited us today and stayed for the Christmas
dinner.
Jan and Chris spend yesterday and today to prepare a Christmas dinner for 44 people.

Jari said good bye yesterday evening after having a great time in Corowa.
Next season we will see him back and hopefully flying the 1000 km FAI triangle.
Today, the high clouds of the change were a bit early. So not enough time to heat up
and develop the thermals. Result, a maintenance day for some of the pilots, a golfday for a few
and cleaning for others etc etc. Francesco and Grietje went to Melbourne to pick up Cynthia.
Our Danish friends HansChr, Jorgen and Stener Leander used the day cleaning their rented gliders
and finish the paperwork for golden badges and new Danish records.

December 13th 2006

On the briefing , we welcomed Herbert Dressler " HD".

We had some as and ac clouds, but good climbs.

December 12th 2006

New bushfires spoiled the day.
By 1 pm the sky cleared and we made a quick temp flight. It looked perfect and a few pilots decided
to fly. Within no time we had them in the air, but then the disappointment came. The smoke changed
direction again and within 2 hours, we were covered in smoke again.

This morning we had some smoke over our area. We delayed the briefing until 11 am
and then to 12 am, but the smoke got thicker and thicker and we decided to cancel the day.
By 3 pm when we got some wind and the area cleared. We could still  see the bush fires in the
south. It is really a disaster for the area around Mt Buller.
We expect for tomorrow northerly wind with temperatures in the high 30 and for Saturday even
above 40 grC.

December 6th 2006

We had a cool (?) change today. Only a narrow cloud band passed our area until 2 pm.
After that we had sunny conditions and blue thermals up to 6000 ft.
Only the tree Danish pilots, Jorgen, Hans Chr. and Stener Leander flew in the afternoon
for about 4 hours. No big distances but nice flights.

N NE wind for tomorrow we should be ok.

Francesco and Daan flew to Wangaretta with FOO for a small repair job. When they were back the thermals just started
with good lift of 3 m/s.
Frank flew 3W and Alfons a few hours on GOB.
When they reported the good lift, Daan, Jari and Berry aslo went for a flight.

November 22nd 2006

It was really a slow moving trough this time.
It took 3 days to cross the state. But from tomorrow we expect to have  good conditions for quite a few days.
The day started with 8/8 AS and AC and in the lower part we had some smoke from the bushfires in Victoria.
But after 1.30 m the sky cleared and we had a beautiful afternoon.
Frank van Putten and Alfons arrived after Jan picked them up from Melbourne. They are for the 2nd time in Corowa.
Also Jan Ritsma and Birgitte arrived later in the afternoon.
Slowly the containers are getting empty. This week JR, JM and PZ.

November 21st 2006

Hot, very hot !! A trough crossing the area and a cool change tonight.
We got a max temperature of 38 grC today. But all day covered with AS and AC.
Later in the afternoon there was enough temperature to trigger good thermals and even some
cu's develloped.
The day was to short to do some flying.

November 20th 2006

max temp 35 grC, but unfortunately all day high clouds.
For tomorrow we expect the cool change.

November 19th 2006

An excellent air mass today. Blue but strong lift and a high base.
The days are still a bit short, but nevertheless we almost made 800 km today.
We had to deal with a little bit of cirrus clouds but the climbs we still very good.
Only the forecasted cu's were not there as the air mass dried out during the day.
Jari made his site check, prepared his glider and did 460 km in the afternoon.

Ruedi Herzog arrived in the afternoon and we will rig his glider tomorrow morning.
Also Matthew (CH) arrived and he will help out on the airfield etc.

Early site check for Jari First gliders on the grid. Victor putting Frank asleep

November 18th 2006

Today we got 29 grC local and a bit more up North.
Blue conditions with good conditions, later a bit less due to some cirrus layers.
But we made good flights over 500 km.
In the morning we rigged MK and Manfred prepared his glider, so ready to go!
Daan was working on his glider and made just a fast afternoon flight over 300 km.

In the afternoon Jari arrived with his LS6 "JJ". Tomorrow morning the check and briefing and
he also is ready to go.
Tomorrow we expect Ruedi (DS).
The containers start to get empty now. Only a few more to rig.

For tomorrow higher temperatures and hopefully good conditions with northerly wind.

November 17th 2006

A cool night of 5 grC and a day max of 24 grC.
Good enough for a reasonable soaring day. However, we had to wait until late in the afternoon
to get to 2000 m.
Jules made his first flight in his (and chef Jan) Ventus.
Daan was picked up from Albury and straight after he arrived we rigged NL and he is ready to go.
Also Manfred (MK) arrived, so it getting pretty busy already.

November 16th 2006

It was the last flying day for Yoghi and Junzo. They enjoyed the nice cu's and good lift.
We will see them back in February.
After briefing we rigged AJ and RA. In the mean time did Jules his site check with Eugene.
The weather was just a bit better as forecasted. 1.grC more and 10 kts wind less.
Enough for the pilots to make good flights. Even 2 flights ove 600 km !!.
After flying Francesco went to Albury to pick up Victor, who will be a staff member for the next 3 months.
The forecast for the next few days is fine and higher temperatures.

November 15th 2006

It was cold today. 15 grC !!!
We had the forecasted cool change with strong winds and showers everywhere. Even hail was forecasted.
We left the gliders in the hanger and finished all the last small jobs.
The tie down area has been mown and all the water ballast equipment and power points are in place.
Tomorrow hopefully good weather.

November 13th 2006

A serious cool change last night and in the morning.
We got 20 mm rain and form 9 am all day long a wind of 20 kts gusts 30 kts.
The sky was beautiful, but unfortunately we could not fly due to
the gusty and strong wind.
For tomorrow we expect another cold front and after that the high pressure should
bring nice soaring weather again.

November 12th 2006

A bit of rain during the night and the cool change during the day.
In the afternoon we found a window to do some site checks with  Yoghi an Junzo.
The forecast for tomorrow is clearing in the morning  and flyable in the afternoon

November 11th 2006

The forecast was ok, but the facts were different.
Instead of an excellent day with blue thermals up to 11.000 ft, we only got a short period
before the cool change.
Berry was the only one who started and flew 200 km.
In the afternoon two of our Japanese guests arrived. Yoghi and Junzo. They will stay
until Thursday.

In the afternoon Ansers Olson arrived with his ASW22 . It hab been rigged and is waiting
for the first flight tomorrow.
The weather forecast is good soarable weather until Sunday.

November 3rd 2006

A long day!
We, Otto, Eva. Eugene, Craig, Max kirschner, Angelo and Francesco started at 10 am.
We took all the fuselages out and all the luggage in the hangar.
After a good inspection of all gliders, we could not find one little scratch !!
Just when we had the last fuselage out, mr Ray Vassallo of AQIS arrived.
And by 2 pm we had all the gliders inspected.
After that we rigged 6 gliders and by 6.30 pm we had the hangar doors closed.
Tomorrow another day of preparation and the first flights on Sunday.
Only Otto and Eva might go for a flight tomorrow.
It was also good to have Grietje back in the office for a while. Also Frank had a look
(most of the time a sleep) at the new world where he has been dropped in.

November 2nd 2006

Jodie in Melbourne did a great job again.
This time customs cleared 3 containers and wanted to unpack an check 1 container.
However Jodie managed to get it all organized in time.
The containers arrived just after midnight. A quick inspection showed everything ok!.
Tomorrow some pictures, now (1:30 am) time to go to bed.
Quarantine inspection tomorrow after lunch.

Container 1 arrives In the side loader 1st container on the spot

October 31st 2006

A few hectic days.
Driving between Wodonga Hospital  and Corowa, tired , but finally home with the family.

Home !!!

In the mean time we had to deal with a delay of the containers and this morning the panic that only
3 containers had arrived.
We do not know why, but the shipping company renamed the White container into xxxx something.
Anyway all 4 containers are in Melbourne and customs slot time is scheduled for Thursday.
Quarantine is on Friday, so without any further delay just in time for the start of the season.

October 26th 2006

Finally the new boss arrived !!!
Today Grietje gave birth to our son " Frank "
Grietje and Frank are both doing very well.

That's me My first sleep

October 24th 2006

An excellent day.
We had a max temperature of 30 grC today with cu's from 11 am until 5 pm .
This with a cloudbase of 10.500 ft and 3,5 m/s climbs made it an early  (Oct)  very good day.

Looks good or not ?

October 23rd 2006

We were just advised by the shipping company, that the containers have a delay of 1 week.
Due to technical repairs in Europe we are facing this week delay.
The new schedule is Arrival Monday October 30th and if nothing is going wrong we will have Quarantine
Inspection on Friday, so we still can start flying on Saturday November 4th.
But not as relaxed as we thought.

October 21st 2006

The last week, was another one without any drop of rain.
Nice temperatures between 25 and 32 grC !!!. And reasonable soaring conditions, reported by Lloyd Bunge
who is flying every possible day. Tuesday for example, good thermals up to 7500 ft agl, not bad at all for October.
Both tow planes are ready and waiting for this very busy season.
Yes it will be different from other years. We start flying straight away on November the 4th and are almost fully
booked until the containers  leave mid February 2007.

The containers are scheduled for arrival in Melbourne on Monday and so far no delay reported.
Hopefully we get them in Corowa by Friday and Quarantine Inspection on Monday or Tuesday, which depends on the
availability of AQIS officer mr Ray Vassallo

In the mean time we finish some little things in and around the hangar and clubhouse.
The pool is clean and 27grC !!!

Not easy to get into town today !! FOO and LGT ready

October 12th 2006

Springtime in Australia !!
No spring this season, we went from winter straight into summer.
Today we got a maximum temperature of 34.1 grC !!! with a strong northerly wind and we think
excellent thermal conditions. Even with an extreme low dew point we got in the afternoon cu's with a
very high cloud base.
The only problem we are facing at this moment are the total fire bans, which we have occasionally in January.
Australia already has a lot of bushfires, even in Tasmania.

Today Francesco flew LGT back from Wangaratta, so also both tow-planes are ready to go.
Last week we finished the annual inspections of Z2, GOB and VY.
We polished VY, GOB, FOO and LGT so it looks great !! Eugene also made new upholstry
for VY, so that glider looks perfect now.
We finished now all the preparations for the season and are taking a few days off to get some rest.

Only 10 days to go and then the containers will arrive in Melbourne.

FOO shining VY, GOB, Z2 ready to go the new tool corner not even the max today sunny and cu's

October 9th 2006

A memorable day.
Today Grietje and Francesco officially got the Australian Citizenship!

Our neighbor Ian Rich was the official witness and by 10 am we were real Aussies.

Grietje managed to get the computer for Victor (in the bar) running and after that
she started with the maintenance on LLK.
In the mean time Francesco finished the new bench for the batteries , a new
working bench in the SW corner of the hangar and the maintenance on VY.

New bench for the batteries New working bench Mainenance on LLK

October 5th 2006

Yesterday we went to Wangaratta to pick up LGT. It was ready, but we decided to put the tranceiver
in the middle of the instrument panel, so we left it there and pick it up tomorrow.
So before the season start both tow planes ready to go.

Still working Matthew and Grietje Matthew taking out the radio

Today our new club member Geoff Kidd, brought his ASW28/18E. We will take care of the annual inspection
so Geoff can start flying as soon as possible.
As Jock Davis moved to Queensland, we have the availability of the Nimbus 2 "VY" for this season
A little bit of maintenance on that glider and it is ready to go.

Today we also got another glider for hire for the full season. a DG 808S (pure glider) rates are also published.

October 3rd 2006

Finally Internet again.
A conflict in the fax line after some maintenance in town caused no Internet and sometimes
just a very slow email traffic for six days.
So finally an update of what happened over here.
Francesco returned from container packing on Tuesday evening.
The first message from Holland  was a lot of trouble with the carnets in Rotterdam, just because one of
the custom officers in Venlo took out the wrong sheet and forgot one stamp. Eric van Geffen from Sauter Logistics
did  a great job to get the containers in time on the Vessel, so they were sailing on schedule.|
In the mean time Grietje finished all the office work in Corowa, so we could start straight away
fine tuning a few items. She also spend a lot of time getting all the bookings organized and to get
extra local gliders organized for hire.
The weather is still ok. Dry and sunny with temperatures of 25 grC during the day.
Sunday was the first flying day of the season. Eugene made the first launch and flew over 2 hours.
in blue thermals 1,5 m/s up to 6000 ft.
The annual inspection of VY the Nimbus2 and GOB LS4 are almost done. A bit of polish and both gliders are
ready to go.
Next week we will do the Annual of LLK a ASW28/18E owned by our new club member Geoff Kidd.
Eugene is also working on a new bench for the batteries and a new work bench near the pawnees.
In the mean time Grietje and Francesco are waiting for the arrival of the new little boss. 2 weeks to go!!.

September 16th 2006

All 4 containers are packed and ready for the trip to Corowa.
Friday morning at 9 am sharp everybody was in Grubbenvorst for packing "RED".
It turned out to be a new packing record.
By 10 am we had all the wings in, by 11 am we had the first 2 fuselages in position
by 12 o clock we had all the luggage in and by 1 pm the Red containers was done
and everybody could drive home and hopefully free of traffic jam.
After that the last pilots for "White" arrived so we went on packing the last container.
Together we did a great job as we finished the last container by 6 pm.
With the great help of Jan and Chris and of course the pilots it was a smooth packing
job this time, of course with a little bit of help of the good weather.
On Saturday morning Francesco did a final check of every container and closed the doors
by 11 am and after that, you won't believe it, RAIN !!!!. Lucky we.
The containers will be picked up on Monday morning 8 am and will leave Rotterdam on Thursday
with the Vessel " ms Fremantle Express"
Francesco is leaving on Monday morning for Corowa again and will join Grietje on Tuesday

September 16th 2006

A busy week!
The ASCC was working this week on both sides of the world.
Grietje in Corowa working hard to get everything organized, which always turns out to be
a lot of work. Office stuff, local rules, bookings, airplane inspections etc etc..
and Francesco in Holland for the containers.
Thursday we started with cleaning the containers on the outside and especially the bottom.
At 1 pm the surveyor Leon de Lange of Aspley Ltd arrived for the safety inspection of the containers.
Green was damaged in a way that a welding repair had to be done. Theo Heldens, our host
straight away organized somebody in his workshop to do the job. After that all 4 containers
were released with new Container Safety Certificates.
A bit of time to go to the customs the clear all the carnets, which is every year a new adventure.
Nevertheless at 6 pm I went back to customs to pick up the carnets. Another job done.
I used the time in Grubbenvorst to prepare the Blue container for packing. AR was delivered
in the afternoon.
Friday morning we could start packing as everybody was in time.
This time without Grietje, but with the great help of Jan and Chris .Nice weather and a good team.
In the late morning Hansi and Eveline arrived ( with nice fresh baked cake !!) with ILH.
So we could put those wings already in Green.
By 2.30 pm we closed the doors of Blue. 1 container ready.
When I arrived Saturday morning 8.45 am in Grubbenvorst, everybody was already there, so we could
start packing straight away. We faced the new challenge, " 3 pair of Ventus 2cxt wings in 1 container"
which turned out to be possible.
We are very happy to have 4 containers, so we can swap wings and fuselages to get in the whole variety
of gliders.
By 11.30 the Nitra group left as we had all the wings and the DG1000 fuselage in.
In the mean time Fred and Victor (our new staff member, bar tender) arrived.
With those two and the rest of the group Werner, Andrea, Richard and Bernd Doernemann we finished the
job and at 2 pm the doors of Green were closed and container 2 was done.
2 more containers to go on Friday and Saturday, but with a little bit of luck we will be able to finish the
job early Saturday afternoon, but more next week.

September 8th 2006

We went yesterday to Canberra to fix all the stuff we needed for our citizenship.
Everything was done except the certificates, which has to be made by a special company.
Result? No ceremony today, but we have to wait until Francesco is back from container packing.
We used the afternoon to visit the Parliament House and attend the "Question and Answer Hour"
of Mr Howard's crew and the house of representatives. Interesting, Now we know who is looking
after us in Australia.

Last year we found the kitchen and storage too warm during summer.
So today that problem was fixed. Two more outlets in the kitchen and two in the storage.
We also made some changes in the kitchen in order to be able to handle the expected
amount of meals to serve.
We also replaced the fridge and freezer into the storage, so we have more place for preparation
in the kitchen.

Grietje is very busy with all the bookings, which is a huge job this year.

Francesco is leaving on Monday.
The last parts for the container are ready for pick up on Tuesday.
On Thursday we will clean the containers for Quarantine reasons and we also have
the Container Safety Check in order  to get new safety certificates, otherwise the
shipping company will not load the containers on the return trip from Melbourne.
On Thursay in the afternoon we expect the first two gliders followed by a busy week.

Today we got the confirmation of the approval of our citizenship application.
Most likely we have the ceremony on Friday, which will make Grietje and Francesco

She also updates the computer with all the data of the new customers and
the internet/ADSL has her full attention.

Francesco finished all the book keeping of the last financial year.
The pool is ready to go but a little bit cold. (21 grC).
FOO is ready and we fly LGT to Wangaratta on Monday and fly FOO back.

Yesterday we checked the 23 left grass and it is TOP!. Nice and smooth.
The Shire also started yesterday mowing 32 left grass which will be 11 meters wider, so we can
launch all the gliders from the 32 left grass.

Pool is clean Grietje busy Eugene enjoying his lunch Why are we not in the air? Temp 4:30 pm

August 26th 2006

We arrived Tuesday evening in Melbourne and were welcomed by Eugene and Graig.

Grietje started straight away installing computers and the office stuff  and Francesco and Eugene
started on preparing the pawnee's for annual maintenance.
FOO is already in Wangaratta an as soon as it is ready we will swap LGT with FOO and
hopefully, by the end of next week both planes are ready for the season.

A sad day for gliding in Australia.

This morning we were advised by Rietje Schuit, that Sportavia will close the commercial soaring centre.
After ending the commercial activities at Waikerie the changes at Benalla and Narromine we think
this is not good for soaring Australia. It is a magnificent country for gliding !!!
As nobody else we understand how difficult it is to run a commercial soaring operation, but stil l!!
Our gliding in Australia started at Tocumwal. Francesco in 1987 en Grietje in 1996.
We enjoyed our stay every time( Francesco 7 times and Grietje 5 times) and made a lot of flights from "Toc".
Francesco even completed his 1000 km badge in 2001.
We wish everybody all the best for the future.

July 17th 2006

Grietje and Francesco went to Antwerpen this week-end to finalize the details
with Jan and Chris about the kitchen work the coming season.
